Brett Aqualine C2550-0066ET (Universal 5.5kW / 240V)

The Brett Aqualine C2550-0066ET (Therm Products 26-0066-7S-K / 2-00-0047) is the universal gold standard for replacing burned-out heating elements in standard 2" stainless steel heater tubes across Balboa, Gecko, HydroQuip, ACC, and Spa Builders controllers.

Wattage / Voltage 5.5 kW @ 240V 1.375 kW when operated on 120V
Nominal Resistance 10.47 Ω Field tolerance: 9.5 Ω to 11.5 Ω
Terminal Stud Center 1.25" (31.75 mm) Fits all standard 2" manifold bulkheads
Foldback Sheath Length 9.75" – 10.0" Engineered for 15" manifold tubes
Sheath Metallurgy Incoloy 800 Alloy High nickel-chromium oxidation resistance
Terminal Nut Torque 30 – 35 in-lbs Do not overtorque; prevents epoxy fracture

Installation Field Guide: Eliminating the #1 Cause of Replacement Element Leaks

Over 60% of replacement heating element failures occur during the first 10 minutes of installation. Inexperienced technicians over-torque the terminal nuts or omit the critical backing counter-wrench, fatally fracturing the internal ceramic dielectric seal.

The Critical Dual-Nut Rule

Every flow-through element utilizes two nuts per terminal stud:

  1. The Bottom Jam Nut: Compresses the internal rubber Viton o-ring against the stainless steel tube hole to create a 100% watertight seal. Torque to exactly 30 to 35 inch-pounds using a thin-wall deep socket.
  2. The Top Electrical Nut: Clamps the copper connecting busbar or electrical wire eyelet securely to the terminal post. MANDATORY: You must hold the bottom jam nut with an open-ended backing wrench while tightening the top nut! If the stud turns even 5 degrees, the internal nichrome lead tears away from the terminal pin inside the compacted magnesium oxide powder.

Bench Testing New Elements Before Installation

Always bench test brand-new replacement elements prior to installation:

  • Resistance Test: Connect multimeter to terminal studs at 200Ω scale. A healthy 5.5kW C2550 element reads 10.47 Ω nominal (9.5 Ω to 11.5 Ω acceptable).
  • Ground Fault Insulation Test: Connect one probe to terminal stud, and touch the second probe to the metal sheath at 20MΩ range. Reading must be O.L (Infinite). Any reading confirms shipping damage or moisture breach.
